Registration of Marriage
Civil Marriage
Application for Civil Marriage should be submitted along with original Birth Certificate of bride and bridegroom. The marriage will be solemnized after 10 clear days from the date of publication of ban.
Declaration of Marriage
Article 3: The natives belonging to Hindu or Muslim religion may either contract marriage before the civil status Registrar or continue to cause their marriage to be celebrated in accordance with ways and customs.
Article 4: The Brahmin or pandaram or cazi who will celebrate the marriage shall be bound to report that fact in writing within 24 hours to the civil status Registrar of the locality.
Article 5: The marriage should be declared, within 15 days following the celebration, by the husband assisted by persons whose consent is required for the celebration of the marriage or by two witnesses related to him or not.
Article 6: The record of marriage shall state:
- the Christian names, names, occupation, age, place of birth and domicile of husband and wife;
- the Christian names, names, occupation of father and mother;
- the date and place of the celebration of the marriage;
- the declaration of the mode of marriage adopted by the spouses;
- the Christian names, names, age, occupation and domicile of the officiant;
- the Christian names, names, age, occupation and domicile of the witnesses and, if they are related or allied to the parties, their statement indicating on what side or at what degree they are related or allied to the parties.
- the particulars whether there exists or there does not exist the marriage settlement indicating also the name of the notary who has drawn it up.
Article 7: The declarations of marriage of French natives either gentiles or moslams celebrated in English territory should be made in presence of two witnesses within 3 months following the return of the spouses to the French Territory. The husband shall produce a certificate of the pandaram or cazi who has celebrated the marriage and the handing over of that certificate shall be mentioned in the record of marriage.
